Can I Run GTA 5?
Since GTA 5 first released on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the GTA V PC system requirements are understandably low.
The very best gaming CPUs have come a long way, but an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and AMD Phenom 9850 from over 10 years ago are still enough to meet the GTA 5 PC minimum system requirements. Similarly, if you're still rocking a 13-year-old Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT or AMD Radeon HD 4870, the gates of Los Santos will be open to you. You'll also need 4GB of RAM, and owing to the GTA 5 game size, 72GB of free storage space. However, Rockstar recommends that you stretch to 8GB of RAM, and we recommend freeing up that 72GB on an SSD for improved loading times.
Stretching to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 will offer a much smoother and prettier experience. Additionally, an Intel Core i5-3470 and AMD X8 FX-8350 are needed to meet the GTA 5 PC recommended system requirements.
GTA 5 PC download
There are plenty of storefronts offering a GTA 5 download, or Grand Theft Auto V if you're feeling formal.
You can purchase the game from the Epic Games Store, Rockstar Store, or Steam.
GTA 5 update
The latest GTA 5 update came on October 25, 2022. While Rockstar merely describes it as a deployment of "general fixes for stability and security", it actually appears to have unified all versions of the game on PC. This should make deploying content to the Steam, Epic Games, and Rockstar Games Launcher much easier.
GTA 5 patches tend to affect the multiplayer world because single-player rarely receives the same amount of love (we have GTA 5 mods and GTA 5 cheats for that, instead). Every week, there's a GTA Online update to look forward to, blessing us with anything from new cars, deals, missions, modes, and races to bug fixes and events.
GTA+ PC
While Rockstar announced a GTA+ subscription service in March 2022 for its online mode in the new PS5 and Xbox Series releases of GTA V, this service has not made its way to the PC version.
GTA 5 settings
GTA 5 may be relatively old, debuting on the PC back in 2015, but it's still as popular as the day it launched. At the time of its release, high-end rigs struggled to run the game at High and Ultra settings, but recent advancements in CPUs and GPUs have made running GTA 5 much easier.
The open-world of GTA 5 is massive, which can lead to long load times. To combat this, we recommend installing GTA 5 on an SSD, which will drastically reduce time spent staring at loading screens.
If you're struggling to maintain a stable or high frame rate, try switching the anti-aliasing option from MSAA to FXAA or just turn off the setting completely. Post-FX settings like bloom, HDR lighting, and heat shimmer can also have a big impact on performance. Keeping these settings in particular a step or two below their recommended settings can help with fps gains.
Texture quality has a small impact on performance, so if you want to keep the game looking decent on a lower-end system, you should be able to keep the texture quality relatively high. Turning down Shader Quality has a fairly small impact on the visuals, but can give a boost to performance.
